Founded in 2018, UltraVPN is what you’d call a new kid on the VPN neighborhood. Run by Network Protect Limited, this high-speed VPN service managed to build a loyal following as it covers all the basics and then some. It effectively matches what top-ranking VPN brands have to offer: AES-256 bit encryption, Kill Switch, OpenVPN protocol, and DNS leak protection.

In addition, it maintains a strict no-log policy and unlimited bandwidth with minimal speed loss.

Privacy / Anonymity

If there’s any red flag about this relative newcomer, it’s that UltraVPN was incorporated in the UK and US. This double-country jurisdiction may not sit well with some people, considering both countries are members of the 5, 9, and 14 Eyes alliances. This controversial intelligence-sharing agreement between countries doesn’t bode well for people looking for the utmost privacy online. What this basically means is that UltraVPN is legally bound to hand over any data it has on its users when a situation demands.

UltraVPN of course counters this by saying that they don’t store user information and have a no-log policy in place. Simply put, they’ll have nothing to hand over since those data simply do not exist. We verified this by going over to the Privacy Policy page and true enough, the only information they collect is necessary for account maintenance - name, email address, telephone number, payment information, and password. On the other hand, the same page talks about getting the IP address and other unique identifiers from the device you’re connecting from, so it still sounds a bit iffy to us. If privacy is your main concern, we suggest looking elsewhere.

Now, if speed and performance is what you’re after, UltraVPN is a decent choice. It has a Firewall Kill Switch that prevents security leaks when your connection drops, so your IP address is never compromised. It has its own DNS-servers, does not leak data, and utilizes a virtually uncrackable 256-bit encryption!

Speed and Reliability

Speed is always a major consideration when choosing a VPN vendor. The best way to know if a vendor is as fast as they claim they are is to test their servers. We first connected to a server close to our location and suffered a 27% download speed loss and 30% upload speed reduction. Next, we tested out one of the servers in the US and were quite surprised with a download speed loss of only 19% and upload speed loss of 40%. All in all, UltraVPN is consistently fast for browsing.

For an average user, a single subscription should be enough as it allows simultaneous connections for up to 3 devices. We couldn’t find any information on their website about the number of simultaneous connections allowed so we tried connecting to customer support via their 24/7 live chat feature. We got ahold of an agent almost immediately and our question was answered right away. Well, it was just a general question so that’s hardly surprising, but we liked the fact that we didn’t have to wait for long. The Knowledge Base section could use a bit of sprucing up, but they do offer email and phone support in addition to the live chat so you might not even need it.
